Poem by Yash (May 31, 2019): Goodbye 4th Grade

Photo by Katerina Holmes on Pexels.com

All the kids in 4th grade,

Depart during summer break.

But once they get to 5th grade,

They’ll have a chance to bake.

Because while you’re in 5th grade,

You’ll just have it made.

You’ll go back in time,

To wars and Great Depressions,

And when you’re done with that,

I’d just love to see your expressions.

First comes Outdoor Ed,

Then the pancake breakfast,

Where you will be nice and fed.

Finally, the Peterson Pride award,

For only the best.

But don’t worry,

They’re only as good as the rest.

5th grade looks like a fun year,

Where you’ll be like a spring deer,

Which is why Im not shy,

To say good bye.

Because you’ll be late for summer break,

(And I’m out of paper.)

Poem by Yash (May 01, 2019): The Bug Poem

Welcome to the world of bugs,

Over here, there are no hugs.

In this world of assassination,

You will never get a vacation.

And if you were a may fly,

You would quickly die.

While bees pollinate from flower to flower,

Venus flytraps love to devour,

And ants just hate to take a shower.

Rhino beetles are really strong,

But if spiders tried to fly, they would come down with a “bong”!

Which is why they make spider webs,

To catch a poor fly’s legs.

Female praying mantis ain’t love bugs,

They’ll kill their mate,

And won’t be late, to have him as a meal,

Not caring how he’d feel.

As army ants marched through the trees,

Bees fly overhead,

And centipedes crawl out of the ground,

As if they were the walking dead.

Water spiders will make a home bubble

And go to make some trouble.

When they come back they’ll have a feast.

Wait, we forgot a beast!

It has thick armour,

And a sting.

With piercing claws

And terrifying jaws,

It’s the scorpion!

Welcome to the world of bugs,

Over here, there are no hugs.

Poem by Yash (Jan 28, 2019): Random Thoughts At Elementary School

CLOCKS

I don’t know how the mouse got up there.

But I know that he fell.

The bird popped out,

And we had to shout,

“No ones louder than that old lout!”

He climbed up the old grandfather,

Did not fall down and we had to shout,

“That clock has a quiet mouth!”

YASH

(Can you find my name in the poem? If you can there will be a prize.)

Young yodeling yak or an,

Arboreal anthropoid or a

Slippery simian, or maybe just a

Horned house trained human!

PENGUIN

Penguins slipping through the ice,

Maybe they should eat some mice.

Though what they wish,

Is for a good fish dish.

GREAT WHITE SHARKS

Swimming silently through the night,

Not wanting to fight.

Instead to hunt,

For polar bears it would take a month.

But for a shark a day.

I hope you’re not swimming!

Poem by Yash (Jan 12, 2019): Inspired by Watership Down

A thousand enemies at my door,

A thousand enemies at my door.

If I get out,

I will score.

My hope has not gone yet,

But I met a flicker

Of darkness.

It was hopeless.

Where is the key

To being free?

I may not know

But I will grow

And I will show

I am not low.

I may be a rabbit

But being scared is not a habit.

And I prepared,

And repaired,

My hope.

I believe I can cope with Frith*.

A myth he may be,

But he gave me my legs to run,

But no, he was not done.

He gave me my tail and ears.

So I used my legs and did not fail,

I ran along the human trail,

But the wolf got me.

I flailed and wailed.

I was lucky to have found a stray nail,

Which I pushed in his paw.

And he let go.

I went with the flow,

And ran to my burrow.

So I was free.

Like a bee.

A pollinator,

More important than an alligator.

Flying from flower to flower,

Not realizing,

What it has done.

It has made the beauty of nature,

And still makes honey for its hive.

Busy as an ant.

(Which do not go in your pants.)

That is what it feels like to really be free.

*Frith is who the rabbits deem as a God. He made the stars by scattering his droppings in the sky. He gave the rabbits their tail, long legs and ears.

“All the world will be your enemy, Prince of thousand enemies. And when they catch you they will kill you. But first they much catch you; digger, listener, runner, Prince with swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people will never die.” -Lord Frith

Poem by Yash (Jan 11, 2019): Leopards and Jaguars

Photo by Satria Bagaskara on Pexels.com

Leopards and jaguars,

They seems the same.

However, the differences are not lame.

When the leopard came after his kill,

He dragged it up the tree.

But the jaguar ate his kill

On the fertile ground.

The rosettes on his fur,

Were different than the leopard’s

Spots and dots.

Another difference, for instance

One is bulky,

The other is not.

But both, you would not want to see,

When you wake from your cot.

The jaguar you would find in a month,

The leopard maybe less.

So yes,

There is a difference.

Poem by Yash (Dec 20, 2018): Merry Christmas

Photo by Kristina Paukshtite on Pexels.com

When we pass each other,

What do we say?

“Merry Christmas!”, “Happy holidays!”

On Christmas, we have no business

But to look at our tree!

And I think you will agree,

The feeling is one of pure glee

When we look at…..

The PRESENTS!

To open the presents,

Is one of the best events,

Surrounded by family and friends.

And though it can get tense,

You can sense,

Tomorrow will be the best day!

As beautiful as a blue jay,

As pretty as a gateway,

Leading to Christmas!

Please make way for the holidays,

So we can all be happy!

Take a nap, get together and chit chat,

Then, open the gift wrap.

But the true present is…

“Having a merry Christmas”

Poem by Yash (Dec 18, 2018): Santa’s Dog Paws

Santa Claus has a dog

Whose name is Paws

Paws has reindeer friends

And always lends them pens

But his straight line has some bends

He stole the elf’s pudding, which was quite wrong

Then he would sing a song about the elf’s wrongs

“With a bong and a clong,

You are foolish. You are always

blueish and never not brutish”

Then one day Santa gave him coal

And then his soul felt like a troll,

Freezing in the North Pole

So that’s how he learnt his lesson!

Poem by Yash (Sep 2018): Welcome to 4th Grade

Photo by Andrea Piacquadio on Pexels.com

Welcome to Mrs. Wehrli’s class – the one in 4th grade,

It cannot fade and cannot be made,

Doesn’t get paid, but will come to your aid,

It will not quit or for that matter hit,

It is not like a nit,

It lit the spirit in the whole school,

Like a jewel shining bright on a stool.

It’s power is so great, it can fuel heat for a pool,

It is not cruel like a ghoul,

Instead like a friendly tool.

It always greets you, whenever it meets you,

It’s not hard like concrete, but soft like a seat.

Poem by Yash (Oct 2018): The Lice Outbreak

Photo by Egor Kamelev on Pexels.com

Dear 4th Graders

I bid you beware,

For it is only fair that I warn you of the lice!

They are not nice and,

If you don’t take this seriously,

You will pay the price.

They crawl in your hair but they cannot fly in the air,

They show up like a flood and suck up your blood – like juice,

While saying, mmm – this tastes like chocolate mousse.

So I bid you beware!

Sharing is caring except when there’s a lice epidemic glaring.

To get rid of lice is almost as easy as playing with dice.

Get a ride to buy Pediculicides,

The lice killing shampoo.

Beware for these lice they do not live in a zoo!

Instead, they live in your head!
